About the event
Musoma Marathon 2026 is a sporting, tourism, cultural and economic event that showcases Mara Region as a destination full of opportunity — in sport, tourism, fishing, aquaculture and investment.
Over three days in Musoma, athletes, families, visitors and businesses come together for running, cycling, rowing and open-water swimming, the Kichuri and Samaki festivals, live entertainment and a Business Round Table on investment in the region.

Lake Victoria swims with lifeguards, rescue equipment and medical teams on hand. Subject to a safety assessment of the venue.
A road race promoting the attractions along the route. Final name and route will be confirmed by the organisers.
Water sports on the lake to develop youth talent and celebrate Lake Victoria tourism.

Leaders, investors, financial institutions and businesses meet to explore investment, market access, financing, tourism, fishing and aquaculture in Mara Region.
Saturday night entertainment with a line-up of artists and a headline performance to kick off race day.

Musoma Marathon 2026 takes place from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 December 2026. The running races are on Sunday 20 December. The official launch is on 2 November 2026.
In Musoma District, Mara Region, Tanzania, on the shores of Lake Victoria. The bicycle challenge runs from Musoma towards Butiama.
Running races of 5 km, 10 km and 21 km; open-water swimming over 500 m, 1,000 m and 1,500 m; the Butiama–Serengeti Bicycle Challenge; and rowing competitions on Lake Victoria.

The swims will only take place after a safety assessment of the venue, with lifeguards, rescue equipment and medical services on hand.
The Kichuri Festival (Saturday 19 December) celebrates Mara Region culture with traditional food, dance, music and exhibitions. The Samaki Festival (Sunday 20 December) showcases fish from Mara Region served with ugali, along with fishing and aquaculture exhibitions.
